Spring Farm Alpacas was established in 2000
with the purchase of three top quality white Peruvian huacaya
female alpacas. Our first suri alpacas followed soon after.
Our aim is to constantly improve the genetics and phenotype
(appearance) of each generation of offspring - by careful
selection of herd sires. Our herd now numbers approximately
95 alpacas (both huacaya and suri), having selectively added
a wide variety of coloured alpacas along the way. We can
now offer a range of friendly alpacas from pet quality to show standard.

Spring Farm is situated in the High Weald Area
of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just outside the picturesque
village of Fletching, in East Sussex. Over our years here,
we have improved our grazing through the seeding of wildflowers
in our fields as part of our commitment to Country Stewardship
and our alpacas health. We now farm approximately 110 acres
of pasture and woodland. While neither of us come from farming families,
we are both extremely interested in wildlife and conservation.
Chris has been a keen fisherman since childhood, now allied
to wildlife photography. Vicki has a scientific background
in zoology, and obtained a Masters degree in applied fish biology. |

We started with a little knowledge and a lot
of enthusiasm. Over the years since, we have attended courses,
seminars and conferences to improve our understanding and ownership
skills of these fabulous creatures both in terms of husbandry
and fibre. Vicki is a British Alpaca Society Judge, chairs the South East Alpaca Group and
is on the joint Health and Welfare Committee. |

Over the years, we have built up a select Stud Team which we mostly co-own with other reputable breeders. In 2007, in our search for world class genetics, we purchased and imported four stud males from the USA. Three are from "the world's most renowned breeding herd of alpacas" huacaya breeder - Snowmass Alpacas, and the fourth - a suri - from specialist suri breeder, Pucara International. |
|
Given what we now know, our aim is to produce
healthy, relaxed, friendly and well trained alpacas. They
produce fabulous fibre for us and we have had fun breeding and rearing them for many years. |
