Alpaca agility course

2nd May 2021 by Chris Agar

Spring Farm Alpacas is so pleased to have finally built an alpaca agility course! After a few years of talking about it, we designed and had built an alpaca (and llama) agility course. When we bought Spring Farm, it was managed as a horse yard. We adapted the stables and out buildings to suit alpacas and llamas. The ménage was almost redundant and has been used to store haylage and farm equipment – until now!

We have designed a see-saw with enough rigidity to ask our rather large llamas to use.

Vicki designed mounting blocks, trotting poles/jumps and adopted weaving poles. This allows us to train our alpacas and llamas whilst they are doing fun things. You can see how involved they get in trying out all the pieces of apparatus.

Its great fun for us and our alpacas to use the agility course and we hope to add it to their halter training too as a fun thing for them to do.

Here is the roll call of Spring Farm Alpacas 2026 Here is the roll call of Spring Farm Alpacas 2026 Show team. We have showed this year at the South of England, the Heart of England and the British Alpaca Society National Show (think Crufts for alpacas). After 25 years of breeding alpacas we couldn’t be more pleased with our alpacas. Winning shows is one thing but with our levels of handling expertise, these are some of our most chilled alpacas who are also on our walking team - so you can get to walk multiple Champions! We still have spaces for walks this year so dont delay and book up a walk now. #alpacafarm #alpacashow #alpacaworld #alpacagram #alpacalife
Onwards to the South of England Show last weekend. Onwards to the South of England Show last weekend. How did Team Spring Farm do? Only got Supreme Champion with Rico!!! Thank you to @_larajade_ and @louisa_234789 for helping out - and Kirsty a big shout out for the van taxi service - we are not worthy! Many thanks to to Tony and Hilary for organising and Nick Harrington Smith for judging. So that’s it - all done for the year’s halter judging. It’s been our best year ever in the showrings and we couldn’t be more pleased. It just goes to show that 25 years of breeding genetics has paid off. #alpacalife #alpacashow #alpacafarm #alpacaworld #alpaca
Over the weekend of 11/12th April, Team Spring Far Over the weekend of 11/12th April, Team Spring Farm ventured out to the Heart of England Alpaca Show in Slapton, Bucks. Well, it couldn’t have gone much better. We took 5 alpacas and got 6 first places (each of the boys plus the Sire’s Light Suri Progeny Class for Tolstoy) and 3 Championships. Vicki and @_larajade_ did an amazing job. It really just shows that our breeding decisions are going in the right direction. Next stop the South of England Show! #alpacafarm #springfarmalpacas #alpacashow #surialpaca #alpacaworld
When we moved to Spring Farm, there was one common When we moved to Spring Farm, there was one common orchid plant on the whole farm. 29 years later there are 4 species and approximately 500 plants. The success of farming for nature (countryside stewardship) is plain to see. These beautiful orchids are early purples and are flowering in amongst the bluebells. Book an alpaca walk amongst our wildflower meadows and witness what nature can do if left in peace! #alpacawalking #wildorchid #alpacafarm #naturewalk #naturewalks
