Spring Farm Alpacas offers alpaca (and llama) walking around our beautiful farm in East Sussex. Situated in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Spring Farm is superbly located adjacent to the Ashdown Forest, Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park and the historic village of Fletching. Alpaca walking is huge fun for everyone – not just our alpacas! Alpacas are delightful and friendly animals and ours all know their names. Everybody who comes to our farm for an alpaca trek comments on how relaxing our alpacas are to be around.
Learn about alpacas
With their inquisitive nature, alpacas are great fun to take for a walk and are certain to put a smile on your face! After a short introduction to us and our farm, we will introduce you to our alpaca and llama family. We will then halter up our walking alpaca team and set off for a casual walk around our 110 acre farm. We normally take a llama or two as well on the walks. Llamas are gentle giants who were born to do this! Do let us know when you book if you would/wouldn't like to walk a llama. During the walk, we will tell you a little about alpacas, their history, their stunning fleece and farming for wildlife at Spring Farm.
We farm for the benefit of our wildlife
Spring Farm has been managed within Countryside Stewardship for the last 24 years and we will tell you how we farm in a wildlife friendly way. As an example, we don't use fertilisers or pesticides at all. Hopefully you will spot some of the wildlife we have encouraged to thrive here – a UK alpaca and wildlife safari!
What to expect.
The entire alpaca walking experience lasts about 2 hours. We will give you a brief introduction first. This is so that both you and your walking alpaca get maximum enjoyment from the walk. It is really important to us that our walking alpacas and llamas really enjoy the experience too! We expect the walking element itself to last about 50/60 minutes and it is across undulating fields all within our boundaries – so you should not encounter any unexpected surprises. The distance we cover is about a mile over wildflower meadows - so a modicum of fitness is required. After the walk, you will pay your walking alpaca (in carrots which are provided ready chopped!). We will then take you to meet our baby alpacas. We have 20 baby alpacas for you to meet in 2024! We only ever do one walk a day so there is never a rush. We also cater for hen parties and corporate events (team building). There is ample free parking on site and a toilet. There are also 2 hand sanitising facilities.
During the walk, we will take photos of you individually and as a group. We will email these out to you a day or so after the walk (no charge). There is also a small shop where you can purchase a perfect memento of your visit.
Just a note...
You must be 12 years or older to walk an alpaca. If the child is aged 8 - 11 they may only accompany an adult who is walking an alpaca. Unfortunately, children under the age of 8 are not permitted on our walks (or on the farm). This is stipulated by our insurance - sorry - and can't be varied.
We are not an open farm so can only offer alpaca walking via pre-booking. We cannot cater for walk-ins I am afraid.
