Coronavirus update for alpaca walking

6th May 2020 by john barker

Here at Spring Farm Alpacas we have to think of the safety of you, our guests, and our staff. We have taken the difficult decision to cancel all alpaca walking during this lockdown period until the 23rd May. We realise this will be very upsetting for anyone who has booked a walk over that period. However, we have to think safety first. We have noted advice from the Government and the British Alpaca Society in relation to the coronavirus outbreak. The latest government advice is that “people should avoid non-essential travel” and “avoid gatherings”. We hope to get further guidance in the next few days…

We will be constantly monitoring the situation with regards to future walks. If you have booked walks up to the 22nd May, we have today sent you an email with a voucher attached. This so the recipient can rebook when “things get back to normal” subject to availability. Please be aware that we don’t date our vouchers. So as long as we are here – they are valid.

You may be concerned about the welfare of our walking alpacas. You can rest assured that we will continue to look after them all with our usual care and attention. Vicki and I have been using this time (without being able to offer walks) to good end. We will finish the halter training the 2019 born crias (baby alpacas) so the walking team may well see new entrants! We have had one new baby so far for 2020 with another 22 on the way (the image is of Apollo – the first cria of 2020).

These are difficult times for us all but you can rest assured your health is paramount to us. We will keep the diary open for future bookings after 23rd May 2020. In the event of continuing restrictions after the 23rd, we will continue on the same basis and issue undated credit vouchers.

Once again, we are very sorry to have to do this as we know that alpaca walking is great fun but we have to think of your welfare first and foremost.

Stay safe and well,
Vicki and Chris Agar, Spring Farm Alpacas and Alpaca Walking.

When we moved to Spring Farm, there was one common When we moved to Spring Farm, there was one common orchid plant on the whole farm. 29 years later there are 4 species and approximately 500 plants. The success of farming for nature (countryside stewardship) is plain to see. These beautiful orchids are early purples and are flowering in amongst the bluebells. Book an alpaca walk amongst our wildflower meadows and witness what nature can do if left in peace! #alpacawalking #wildorchid #alpacafarm #naturewalk #naturewalks
Grabbed the camera yesterday evening. Amazing suns Grabbed the camera yesterday evening. Amazing sunset over the farm and the naughty boys were out in their field. Couldn’t resist taking these in what proved to be a very short window before the colours had gone. No time to play with camera settings so apologies if not perfect exposure! #alpacawalking #alpacafarm #sunset #sunsetsky #sunsets

ALPACA FARM STAY IN SUSSEX. A view with a room! Th ALPACA FARM STAY IN SUSSEX. A view with a room! This is “The Lodge at Spring Farm Alpacas” which you can find on AirBnB (we are rated 4.96*). It’s a holiday let and because of the farm’s schedules, we let it from Saturday to Saturday all year round. There are a few weeks vacant for 2026 and we are about to come into our birthing period for the alpacas (starts mid/end May). If you fancy a truly unique break/holiday with peace, quiet and alpacas - then you might have just found it. It has a king size double bed room and a sofa bed so sleeps up to 3. The Lodge is recently converted and recently redecorated. It has all top quality appliances, good wi-fi, parking, access to an EV charger, fully double glazed and insulated - and our prices are fully inclusive all bills/vat etc. We are near the village of Fletching, East Sussex but on the doorstep of Brighton, The South Downs, #farmstay #holidaylet #farmlife #ukstaycation #holidaycottage

We had a great time at the British Alpaca National We had a great time at the British Alpaca National Show 2026. Taking multiple awards in both fleece show and halter show. A huge thank you to the organisers of the show - we know how much work goes into the preparation. A huge shout out to @holly_stonehouse too for all her help and enthusiasm at the show. Getting a show team like ours takes years of breeding experience and knowledge and hopefully we will return in 2027 to emulate our 2026 successes!
