Yesterday, we said a very happy birthday to Molly – our oldest alpaca. Molly was born on the altiplano of Chile on the 1st January 1993 – but not sure their spreadsheets were entirely accurate! She came to the UK and was bought by our then neighbours Peter and Victoria Wigan. When they retired from alpaca ownership about ten years ago, we took on their herd and promised to give Molly a good home for the rest of her days. We are not sure if Molly is the oldest alpaca in the UK, but at 23 years young, she’s doing very well!
Molly is now retired from motherly duties but acts as a nanny for our crias when called upon. Molly doesn’t have the “best” fleece so is very grateful for her nice warm coat that she wears in the colder months. For her Birthday, Millie has brought her favourite carrot cake and we couldn’t resist the champagne – for us not Molly!
