AGISTMENT

If alpaca ownership appeals to you, your first stop could be agistment – if you don’t currently own any land, or wish to! I will admit to having to look up agistment in the dictionary - it means you buy and own alpacas but keep them with us and we look after them for a small fee. In the case of owning females particularly, the ability to watch over them as they near their due date, can pose a problem, easily overcome – by keeping your alpacas with us here in Sussex. This can remove all of the worry associated with the start up phase of your herd.

Agistment can provide a “learning period” for you to feel comfortable with alpaca handling and husbandry. Since alpacas cannot be kept on their own, agisting can also enable your herd to begin with a single alpaca, which will be relaxed in one of our friendly groups relevant to his or her age.

We can halter train and even show your alpacas for you – if that is your objective. We would be happy to discuss the financial proposition with you as well so you can understand the costs as well as the potential rewards. You will be surprised what good value agistment is here at Spring Farm Alpacas...and we promise you exceptional attention to detail in the health and wellbeing of your alpacas.
